They’ve got a new system, which I haven’t seen before and excellent movement. Even though we’ve been successful against them in the past, it is going to be an extremely difficult game. We’ve already seen how much quality they’ve got. Ruud van Nistelrooij, Netherlands striker: Two years on, we have to play Portugal again, but the teams are completely different. We’ve got a young squad, and the World Cup is another tournament altogether, because it throws up things that the European Championship just doesn’t have. We know that we’re going up against a very strong team, but they know as well that they aren’t going to have things their own way. For that reason, it’s going to be an interesting match. | 25 June 2006, 11:44 AM | | | The duel Luis Figo v Arjen Robben: the battle between these two outstanding talents will be a real contrast in styles. At the age of 33, Figo looks back to his inspirational best. He is fit and raring to go, and his work-rate in the matches so far would do justice to a man ten years his junior. In his team’s first two games, the Inter Milan midfielder set up all three of the goals, and was justifiably chosen as Budweiser Man of the Match against Angola. Robben, for his part, has caught the eye of FIFA's Technical Study Group twice, being named Budweiser Man of the Match in the Netherlands’ two Group C victories. The Chelsea speedster was rested for the game against Argentina in order to avoid a second yellow card that would have kept him out of the Round of 16. But he will take his customary place on the wing against Scolari’s side, and just like his Portuguese counterpart, he will look to add pace, creativity and imagination to his team’s attack Ayo yang jagoin Holland, keluar dong dari sarang. It is life or death." It seems the further England venture along the road to Berlin, the more Sven-Goran Eriksson's hitherto unruffled demeanour changes. As England prepare to face Ecuador the Round of 16 in Stuttgart on Sunday, Eriksson's message is clear: it is now or never for England. "I've told them that it is our chance, their chance, it may never come again," he told reporters on Saturday. "Who knows what will happen? It is four years to the next World Cup. This is a huge occasion. I have spoken about it ever since we qualified." Eriksson, in his final tournament as England manager, is desperate for his team to make their mark and this is expressing itself in an increasingly tough-talking attitude. The Swede, whose quiet manner in the dressing room prompted criticism from one or two voices in the England camp after their loss to Brazil four years ago, was described by John Terry this week as being "a lot more aggressive than before". Eriksson is understood to have been unhappy with England’s failure to defend set-pieces in their 2-2 draw with Sweden last Tuesday and according to Terry, the once taciturn Swede "has been raising his voice". The Chelsea defender continued: "He knows we have a very good side and he knows this is his last chance to win something with a very good group of players." The change in Eriksson is not just reflected by a new bluntness – evident when he described England's defending against Sweden as "awful". It is also seen in an apparent willingness to make bold decisions – starting with the inclusion in the squad of Theo Walcott and continuing through to his expected team selection for Sunday's game. Eriksson is reportedly ready to hand the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Michael Carrick his first competitive appearance in an England shirt. The 24-year-old – who has six caps from friendly matches – will almost certainly fill the midfield holding role in a new 4-5-1 formation which would see Owen Hargreaves, impressive as the deep midfielder against Sweden, switch to right-back. If correct, this will spell bad news for Liverpool’s Jamie Carragher but it seems that, with Gary Neville still sidelined by a calf problem, Eriksson had reservations about Carragher’s ability to cope with the pacy threat of Ecuador wide man Edison Mendez. It will mean Peter Crouch dropping to the bench with Rooney handed a lone striking role. Carrick is naturally delighted by this opportunity and said on the eve of the game: "In this formation, I would say that me being there gives Steve (Gerrard) and Frank (Lampard) more licence to go and support Wayne up front and hopefully chip in with some goals." Carrick is, in Eriksson's words, "a good passer of the ball" and his presence on an expected hot afternoon could help an England team with a reputation for giving the ball away cheaply at times. Like the weather in Germany this month, England have blown hot and cold in their three matches so far at this FIFA World Cup™. However, Eriksson - who should be able to call on Rio Ferdinand despite the groin problem that saw him limp off against the Swedes - expects an improved showing to match the raised stakes. "I firmly believe we will play better football against Ecuador than we did in the first three games," he pledged. credit to FIFAworldcup.com 25 June 2006 | 25 June 2006, 08:54 PM | | Senior Member | | Join Date: June 2006 Location: paris van java Posts: 2,062 Rep Power: 5 | | ……E.N.G.L.A.N.D…….
