So said Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann, raising the temperature as expectations grow in the host nation. Germany kick off the Round of 16 of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ on Saturday at 17:00 (CET) in Munich. And it is all or nothing from here on in. While the game could bring the prospect of a world title on home soil one step nearer, the players are only too aware of how quickly it could all disappear. “One mistake now might mean going out,” warned captain Michael Ballack, while goalkeeper Jens Lehmann admitted: “I hope the tournament still has a long way to go for us.” Germany determined to stay the course Germany are fully focused ahead of their showdown with the Scandinavians and acutely aware of the pressure on their shoulders. Klinsmann’s men seem capable of riding the wave of euphoria sweeping Germany without losing their focus or the ability to perform at their peak. The team insist this is no time to dwell on their three victories in Group A, which will all have been in vain if Lars Lagerback’s men send the host nation tumbling out. “Sweden are our first really tough opponent. We have to step up a level in this game,” said Ballack, refuting any suggestions of arrogance in the host team after their group wins over Costa Rica, Poland and Ecuador. However, there is no shortage of confidence in the German camp. “We’re not afraid of anybody. We have faith in our ability and we’ll show everybody that. But we respect our opponents. My team are keeping their feet on the ground,” insisted Klinsmann. “We’re absolutely convinced we’ll win this game. We won’t entertain any other thoughts.” The Germany coach has a full complement of players at his disposal with only one change likely to the XI who lined up against Ecuador. Christoph Metzelder is fit again to return in defence after straining a tendon in his right knee, so Robert Huth will be back on the bench. “Christoph played fantastically in the first two games. We've said that he'll come back in even though Robert had a good game,” said Klinsmann. It is highly likely that the host team will stick with their tried and trusted midfield, this time lining up in a solid bank of four with Ballack expected to play alongside Torsten Frings and sacrifice some of his surging forward runs to stay back and win possession. Ballack: Keep our discipline Germany are expecting nothing less than a dogged battle against what Ballack describes as the "very robust, physical, fast and difficult to work out" Swedes. Freddie Ljungberg, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrik Larsson and Co showed they are a match for Germany in the physical department in the 2-2 draw with England. “The main thing for us is to keep our discipline and shape,” insists Lehmann, while Ballack is full of optimism: “If we play our own game, I'll have no worries.” The Sweden game marks the end of a journey of self-discovery for Klinsmann’s team. After years in the football wilderness, Germany are now confident that they belong back among the world elite. “My players know full well that this is their tournament and their moment. These are great players who want to prove that they are world class,” said Klinsmann. Lehmann reunited with Ljungberg For one German player, the game just cannot come quickly enough. Jens Lehmann can hardly wait to take on his Arsenal team-mate and good friend Ljungberg. The 36-year-old German keeper knows how much the Swedish attacking ace would love to score against him. “He didn’t have to say anything else on the phone. I already know.” Fireworks are guaranteed when Germany and Sweden go head-to-head. It will be a test of strength and the kind of game the host nation has been anticipating for a long time. These 90 minutes will determine whether the three-time world champions are ready for number four. As Klinsmann says: “It will be a difficult game, but we don’t want anything else. We want to take on the best.” credit to FIFAworldcup.com | 24 June 2006, 08:26 PM | | Senior Member | | Join Date: June 2006 Location: paris van java Posts: 2,062 Rep Power: 5 | | The adidas GOLDEN SHOE AWARD The leading goalscorer at every FIFA World Cup™ finals is awarded the adidas Golden Shoe - past winners of the accolade include Gerd Muller, Ronaldo and Just Fontaine.
